The insurance market is experiencing a period of strong change in processes and operating models. Taking into account the recent crisis, due to Covid-19, the consumers are showing a strong drive towards savings, which leads to the search for insurance solutions with a high quality / price ratio and flexibility of choice, linked more to insurance functionality and less to brand loyalty.

This situation leads insurance companies, to avoid a price war, to add innovative services to their flagship offers to attract new customers and replace brand loyalty.

Emerging technologies can make a contribution to overcoming this situation. Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, with new mobile communication infrastructures (5G) and smartphones, can open new frontiers for the insurance sector and give rise to new opportunities.

These technologies can lead us to a redefinition of the pricing model (today, a static type and defined on a statistical basis), that can evolve into a dynamic model and on a predictive basis, through an accurate behavioral analysis of the policyholder. In fact, in the “vehicle” sector, we begin to consider the rates commensurate with consumption (pay as you drive), the rates based on the driving style (pay how you drive) and those that involve a push to improve the way of car use  (manage how you drive).

In the “personal health” sector, the emergence of weareable devices, combined with innovative digital health applications, can affect the prevention and risks reduction, associated with health and accident insurance and life insurance contracts.

In the “house” sector, the home automation, integrated with security systems and services, can now allow us to detect fires, thefts, leaks, electricity outages and the activation of appropriate interventions, allowing the insurance company to monitor and manage continuous risk and a reduction in the likelihood of damage.

One of our main clients, among the leaders of the Italian insurance market, was among the first to introduce technological innovations, carrying out complex projects, like black boxes management and anti-abandonment devices management.

The black box is an intelligent satellite device that (via GSM, GPS and accelerometers modules) allows you to associate a series of interesting H24 services with the customer’s car policy, as well as lead to a fair reduction in the insurance premium. Among the most interesting services stand out the collision alarm with emergency call, monitoring of the position and the route, speed monitoring with overspeed warning, search and recovery of the stolen vehicle.

The anti-abandonment device is a cushion, to be placed on the child’s seat, which alerts drivers to the child’s presence as they are about to leave the car, through an acoustic and visual alarm, warning with a special app, a set of 3 “friendly” numbers, with the location of the device.

The realization and release of these projects involves, when fully operational, an onerous and continuous management by the insurance company, in terms of devices functionality monitoring and control, customer requests management, anomalies management, departments technicians (hardware and software) management, involved in overcoming anomalies and in the release of patches or workaround solutions.

ACTION ICT is proud to participate in this project, making a contribution through the professional work of its resources, involved in the presented various support activities.

The service structure is based on teams, managed by managers and supervisors and formed by a maximum of about ten technicians, that constantly provide support activities.

The organization is the classic one, divided into three levels. The first opens the report and manages the relationship with the customer, the second has a first technical responsibility for the solution of the request, while the third, composed only of hardware and software technicians and any external suppliers, is in charge of the final solution of the anomalies, through patches and releases.

As always, we like to close with a thank you to our Client and a special greeting to all our colleagues, professionally engaged in this project of technical and application support on innovative insurance products and services.
